| 1978 Corvette Indy Pace Car, RARE RPO Z-49 (Canadian Export), L-82, 4 Speed Close Ratio Tranny, 3:70 Rear, Gymkhana Suspension. 10,300 miles, NCRS Top Flight in 2010 with a 99.7 score and Sportsmans Award in 2011. Car can be seen in the new "68-"82 Corvette Restoration Manual, Second Edition by Richard Prince (Motorbooks Publ.) were it was used as a reference vehicle and on the opening page. A binder full of documentation goes with the car from the original Dealers Invoice to paperwork from GM Canada Vintage Vehicle Services who verified the car. Of the 6,502 Pace Cars produced only 202 were L-82, 4 Speed cars, less with the Gymkhana Suspension added. Of the 202, 12 were exported to Canada from the St.Louis plant, 6 are known to exist, this is one of them ! If you read the fine print in the dealers brochure you will see this engine/trans combo was NOT AVAILABLE in 5 states and 6 U.S. Counties because of EPA rules at the time. The original tires that are in excellent condition, T-Top bags (never used), original style clear plastic floor mats (per build sheet), door decals in the original GM box , 2 owners manuals (one in French , one in English), original dealer brochures (one U.S, one Canadian), manuals, warranty cards and window stickers are also included in this sale. The only modification to this car was that the original calipers had stainless steel sleeves installed with DOT 5 fluid. You also can see a five page spread about this car in VETTE Magazine (Jan 2013 Vol 37 / No 01). If you are looking for that "different collectible Pace Car" at a fair price this is it. Like the article in VETTE Magazine said, "Thought you'd seen every version of the "78 Corvette Indianapolis 500 Pace Car edition ? You haven't, until you've seen Joel Shapiro's. It's one of the rarest of that one-year only shark." |
